I just realized last week that it’s a leap year. We get an extra day stuck on the end of February every four years like clockwork, but I cannot for the life of me recall last leap year. Can you? My twin daughters had just turned two at the time, so maybe I have a good explanation for that one, but the truth is that leap years always sneak up on me.
Which made me think this morning: what if I set a leap year goal? Nothing too elaborate or involved; just a simple goal that I can check in with myself on every four years. This appeals to my procrastinator nature more than the somewhat rushed one-year goals I try to set and keep. I don’t know why, but it also seems more do-able than the elusive “five-year plan” people are constantly being encouraged to bear in mind. Maybe because it’s a set date – leap year will be coming in 2016, like it or not.
So let’s see – a leap year goal. Hmmm. A goal just about me – not too big, not too small…okay, I’ve got it. I’d like to have written a book by 2016. Seems daunting, but it’s been a goal of mine for a while, and I’ve always shuffled it back to the “long-term goal” section of my brain. Leap year seems like a good time to set a date – and so it is. 2016!
How about you? What would your leap year goal be? Email me at laurel@laurelfay.com and let me know – I’d love to hear it. Maybe we can encourage and support each other as we work towards our next leap year!
